This week's solar eclipse, on Thursday, September 1, 2016 is
"the annular solar eclipse visible from Madagascar and locations in Central Africa. The Moon's shadow will also cross parts of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. For most viewers in Africa, the eclipse will be a partial solar eclipse. The eclipse will begin at 06:13 UTC on September 1, 2016. The maximum point will take place at 09:01 UTC, and the annularity will last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds."

Astrologically Elsa P. gives this succinct advice about using the positions of the heavenly bodies during this solar eclipse.

"...Find a goal, people. Shoot for something. Make sure it’s righteous (Sagittarius)! Make sure it helps people (Virgo). Don’t be afraid to sacrifice and act with compassion (Pisces).  Because if you do this, I bet you have a GREAT WEEK ahead.  Never mind, you can set your inspired (Neptune) course (Mars Saturn) for the future (Jupiter), creatively and emotionally (Sun Moon)...

Pete and I are applying that advice in our lives today. We sent an email to members of our community last night, it opens with this paragraph (edited)

"Pete and I prepare to move from the woods in Langley, where we have built the original tiny home, chemical free and fragrance free Safety Pin Cafe lifestyle. The strong and swirling winds of winter during the past couple of years have brought White Pine tree tops and limbs too close for comfort. The dampness and mold of a deep forest life is also more difficult for me to manage. These two issues spur us to take action, and care for ourselves. So we have come up with this proposal to move our Safety Pin Cafe lifestyle to __________."

This is our goal: to collaborate(with people and place we respect), seek(creative living solutions) and offer(our services, and experiences) to help grow an organization's mission(Virgo). There are risks and costs involved in our goal and to get to some mutually beneficial outcome all involved will need to be inspired and future thinking. We meet with this group this evening for food, pie and conversation. The crockpot has been working over time, and details are still being tidied up today. The pie will go in the oven in time to be baked and ready to eat with ice cream while we discuss the potential.

There will be work (hard and maybe frustrating) to be done to make this goal possible come this winter. But it's worth it, we think.

One last thing Elsa wrote about this solar eclipse,

Now please, please, spread this post far and wide. Because I know astrologers are going to scare people with this. I’m telling you, if you’ll work with Mars Saturn, it’ll be like sitting at the table holding at least three aces and maybe four."

How about you, got a goal and people to connect with?

  1. Our dinner meeting with community was overwhelmingly supportive. While eating crockpot simmered turkey thighs, red cabbage and Whidbey grown green beans and hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream, I opened with the chant "Pule Hou'uulu" and call the ancestors to grant us wisdom and respect for the relationships begun on this land, with these people. For the first time we showed people what our life in a vardo for two, held together with safety pins is truly about. We spoke of our needs, our intentions, and asked for a hand full of people to consider how we could grow a future from our Safety Pin Cafe lifestyle.

There are many more steps to take, but, we are taking them together. It's a walk of faith. What other kind is there, as Antonio Machado said to the Caminante.
